Cam Talbot left the Detroit Red Wings' practice Friday and Coach Derek Lalonde said he won't play in Saturday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"Just battling something, lower body," Lalonde said. "Obviously, fought through it, gave us an unbelievable game last night. Gave it a go early in practice today and couldn’t complete practice.”
Talbot started Thursday against Philadelphia for his first game in 11 days. He made 32 saves while giving up only two goals.
Ville Husso, who hasn't won a game at the NHL in more than a year, will likely start against Toronto. Since being recalled from Grand Rapids, he has played five games and gone 0-2-2 with an .893 save percentage.
The Red Wings haven't yet said whether they will call-up Sebastian Cossa or Jack Campbell from the Grand Rapids Griffins to serve as Detroit's backup Saturday. The Griffins announced Friday that they called up Carter Gylander from the Toledo Walleye.
Lalonde said Alex Lyon, also recovering from injury, isn't quite ready. He has not played since Nov. 25. "Hoping for Wednesday," Lalonde said. "He took a full practice today, moving post to post very well. I think this was the plan all along and hope for Wednesday (at home against the Philadelphia Flyers)."
The injuries are poor timing for the Griffins who are two games into a six-game road trip. They are playing in Colorado tonight and Saturday. They are in Texas Tuesday and Wednesday.
