Puzzle Over Lehner Mystery Only Deepens

The mystery surrounding former NHL goalie Robin Lehner only continues to deepen. Lehner, the 33-year-old Swedish netminder who hasn’t played an NHL game since he was with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2021-22 - he’s on long-term injured reserve following hip surgery - is in far more serious jeopardy due to personal financial issues that led to him filing for bankruptcy.

Those matters appear to be getting worse for Lehner. He’s apparently gone on the lam without paying any of his legal fees to his bankruptcy lawyers.

"Robin Lehner's physical whereabouts are unknown, and he has left the property," reads an agreement between Lehner’s lawyer and the bankruptcy trustee.

That property, his multi-million dollar home in Las Vegas, has been sold to pay off some of his bankruptcy debts. The bankruptcy trustee has also ordered Lehner’s wife Donya to sell off several of her items, including her clothing and shoe collection from designer names such as Hermes, Dolce And Gabbana, Chanel, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, and Christian Louboutin. They are also selling their pet’s Gucci dog collar.

One of the most puzzling acquisitions by the Lehner’s that came to light via the bankruptcy proceedings is the purchase of an exotic snake farm.

Yes, it’s true. Professional athletes live much different lives than we do.

Lehner recently contacted the Las Vegas Review-Journal. While he was willing to talk to the newspaper, he was declining to reveal his whereabouts.

“I don't need sympathy or anything like that,” Lehner told the Review-Journal. “Take what is true and I will take it like a man. But it's all fake. No one has any idea what has happened to my family and my life after a series of different things. Going forward, people will find out what actually happened.”

The 2019 Masterton Trophy winner also had harsh words for the Golden Knights organization.

“They have no feelings and that is why they win,” Lehner said. “Is it good? Is it as it should be? I don't know.”
