Wedgewood Latest NHL Goalie to Go Down With An Injury.

Add Colorado Avalanche goalie Scott Wedgwood to the growing number of NHL goalies who have gone down with injuries.

Wedgewood was injured in Colorado’s 6-5 overtime win against Buffalo Thursday

The play occurred when Buffalo’s Zach Benson was driving toward the crease and had a collision with Colorado’s Parker Kelly. Benson then fell into Wedgewood who clearly was in considerable pain. The Sabres scored on the play.

Colorado coach Jared Bednar told Colorado Hockey Now this about the play: “If (Wedgewood is) hurt and he’s not getting up and they’re standing there looking at it, the whistle should go. It’s just that simple,” Bednar said. “For them to just let it go and then allow the goal is iinsanity to me.”

Bednar estimated his goalie will be out “week to week” with a lower body injury.

Other goalies already out:

Igor Shesterkin (New York Rangers): Could be back Jan. 9, but New York Post writer Larry Brooks writes there is no guarantee of that. He suffered an upper body injury when Florida’s Sam Bennett ran into him after being hit by defenseman Ryan Lindgren. He’s been on the IR since Dec. 3.

Thatcher Demko (Vancouver Canucks): Day-to-day, no further information is available.

Linus Ullmark (Ottawa Senators): He hasn’t played since Dec. 22, and there hasn’t been much news about his injury. He is considered day-to-day.

Vitek Vanecek (San Jose Sharks): Fractured cheekbone, prognosis is week to week.

Samuel Ersson (Philadelphia Flyers): Day-to-day, no further information is available.
